THE QUEER LOUNGE MISSION
The Queer Lounge — a non-profi t 501(c)3 organization — establishes hospitality spaces at the most prestigious film festivals in the world and caters mainly to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (“queer”) festival-goers. The Queer Lounge serves as the hub for queer and queer-friendly film professionals and festival attendees. Its mission is to improve the outlook for queer-cinema. By creating an early buzz around festival films with queer-content or made by queer fi lmmakers, we feel that these films can ultimately gain a broader audience. By facilitating professional networking and providing educational opportunities for queer filmmakers, we hope to increase the quantity and quality of queer films being made.
THE QUEER LOUNGE DURING SUNDANCE
The Queer Lounge during Sundance will be active from January 21 to 29, 2005 in Park City, Utah and will be located in Park City’s popular Main Street district.
Queer Lounge is:
- A HOSPITALITY SUITE where our guests can relax and network.
- A ONE-STOP SHOP FOR INFORMATION where those attending the film festival(s) can learn about films with queer-themes or made by queer filmmakers.
- AN EVENT SPACE for parties, panels and press conferences.
In addition to Sundance, the Queer Lounge also markets itself to guests of the concurrent Slamdance Film Festival and is legally independent of both festivals.
Queer Lounge is the brainchild of former feature film executive, Ellen Huang, and was launched in January 2004 during the Sundance Film Festival. At that festival, the Queer Lounge supported over 50 films and shorts and had over 4000 film festival-goers visit the hospitality suite or attend a Queer Lounge party, panel or press conference.
